What is Intention Tapping?

Pioneered by Steve Wells, Intention Tapping (IEP) is a powerful technique that combines tapping on specific acupressure points—on the face, body, and fingers—with intentional statements to help release emotional attachments to current challenges.
For instance, if you’re feeling upset by something a friend said, I’ll guide you to tap along and repeat a statement such as: “I release all my emotional attachment to what was said to me and what it all means to me.” At its core, Intention Tapping recognizes that it’s not the situations, challenges, or people themselves that create distress but our emotional attachment—or “grip”—to them. By releasing these attachments, we create a sense of space and openness within ourselves, moving from feeling constricted or stuck to experiencing greater emotional ease and inner expansion. We can then respond to life’s challenges with more clarity and ease. This practice also helps to regulate and restore the right energy flow and balance in both the body and emotions. For example, if you’re feeling sad but resisting the sadness, it can leave you feeling stuck. Through guided tapping, I’ll help you process these emotions by repeating a statement like: “I restore the right energy flow to my sadness.” This doesn’t make you feel “more sad”; instead, it allows the emotion to flow naturally so you can process it with greater ease. Intention Tapping embraces the idea that emotions aren’t inherently good or bad—it’s our perceptions and beliefs about them that create resistance and aversion.
